Artweek Expands into Seven New Towns, Offers over 180 Events

ArtWeek, an award-winning creative festival, announced its largest event lineup since its 2013 launch. From September 30 – October 9, residents and visitors of more than 50 neighborhoods and towns across Eastern Massachusetts can take part in 180+ unique artistic events. These events will offer participants new ways to experience art, culture, and creativity.

“I am blown away by the continued growth of ArtWeek and the demand for affordable and hands-on creative experiences,” said Josiah A. Spaulding, Jr., President & CEO of Citi Performing Arts Center. “This is the largest fall ArtWeek festival we’ve ever produced, and I’m so proud to work with the Highland Street Foundation and many other partners to offer such diversely creative events. We are expanding into new areas, engaging participants of all ages and backgrounds, and ultimately showcasing how remarkable Greater Boston’s creative community really is. And how cool is that?”

Presented by Highland Street Foundation and produced by Citi Performing Arts Center, ArtWeek is a bi-annual, ten-day festival that features unique and creative experiences that are hands-on, interactive or offer behind-the-scenes access to artists or the creative process. This season, participants can design their own political posters, unleash their inner rock star at an open mic night, become a Jedi Lego master, or get an inside look at Blue Man Group Boston. Since more than half of this season’s events are free and all are affordable, don’t limit yourself! You can also learn traditional Greek dances, go behind the scenes with the Urban Nutcracker, master the art of giving a TEDx Talk, or learn to paint like Monet.

With seven new cities and towns participating this season, these exciting events are now happening across more than 50 neighborhoods and towns, including Boston, Brockton, Cambridge, Carver, Dedham, Gloucester, Hopkinton, Hyannis, Lowell, Nantucket, New Bedford, Newton, Rockport, Waltham, Winchester, and more.

“We’re thrilled to be entering our fourth year of partnership with Citi Performing Arts Center to bring ArtWeek to cities and towns across Eastern Massachusetts,” said Blake Jordan, Executive Director of Highland Street Foundation. “ArtWeek not only spotlights our cultural community, but it also provides free or low cost programming that enables children and families to explore their creativity in a hands-on way.”

This season will also showcase expanded “Art of Food” offerings. The festival will offer many culinary events, including opportunities to taste test local micro brews, observe an edible art demonstration, master the 5 S’s of wine tasting, and learn how to create unique Japanese dishes. ArtWeek is also partnering with more than 20 restaurants who will offer artistically inspired dishes or drinks during the festival run. Participating restaurants include The Beehive, Clink, Red Lantern, Erbaluce, Gennaro’s 5 North Square, Michael’s Deli of Brookline, Menton, No. 9 Park, Otto Pizza, The Salty Pig, and more.
