Tagliaferro not seeking NEWNC reelection

Following serving 20 consecutive years on the North End/Waterfront Neighborhood Council (NEWNC) Anne Devlin Tagliaferro has decided not to seek reelection to the volunteer community advisory board.

An extremely active member of the North End/Waterfront neighborhood, Anne represented the community in a professional and caring manner. She is also a very respected member of the Council and the community.

Being a NEWNC member is not an easy task having to deal with plans, proposals and requests presented by neighbors and friends, however, Anne managed the task very well.

NEWNC and the neighborhood is losing a good person that will be difficult to replace.

Anne should be recognized and congratulated for doing her part for the neighborhood in a positive manner.

NEWRA membership campaign underway

It has been impressive to see that the North End/Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA) monthly meeting in the Nazzaro Community Center is attracting more and more community residents.

NEWRA, a non-profit volunteer organization works with the City of Boston as an advisory committee dealing with related proposals, requests and other issues of concern.

They have four Committees, Public Safety, Zoning, Licensing and Construction, Parks and Recreation and Executive which also meet on a monthly basis.

Currently, NEWRA is conducting a membership campaign to bolster the Association and to allow more residents to vote on issues at their monthly meetings.

Interested parties should attend NEWRA’s next meeting scheduled for Thursday, May 12 at 7pm in the Nazzaro Community Center.

There is no time limit to register to become a member, it’s ongoing.

Get out and watch NEAA Baseball games

The North End Athletic Association (NEAA) baseball program at Langone Field and Puopolo Park are underway with Little and Junior League games just about every night starting at 6pm.

It would be nice to see a lot of fan support for these young baseball players who will be showing their talents as baseball players.

While parents are usually at the games, more family members, friends and neighbors should try to attend these games and let the players know their efforts are worthwhile.

All youngsters like to be recognized while performing their baseball skills.

Support NEMPAC scholarship program

State Representative Aaron Michlewitz will hold a fundraising event to provide the North End Music and Performing Arts Center (NEMPAC) with two major scholarships for North End students under the age of 18.

The scholarship will be given out in memory of Geraldine Marshall (Aaron’s mother) who love children and the arts.

A Cornhole Tournament will be held on Sunday, May 15 at the Living Room at 3pm.

Two students will receive a full-year scholarship for music lessons or to participate in one of NEMPAC’s artistic programs.
