Requests for Full Liquor Licenses Abutters Meeting Held

Seven North End restaurants took part in an abutters meeting held by the City of Boston Community Services Department last week at the Nazzaro Community Center to discuss potential alcohol licenses (beer, wine and cordials) to full liquor licenses.

About forty people attended with no real opposition expressed. Residents mostly asked questions about how the system works.

The idea of the public meeting was to have residents and organizations near these eateries to express opinions and concerns about having these licenses transferred.

Results of the meeting does not mean approval or denial of the requested changes. Final decisions will be made by the Licensing Board for the City of Boston.

There are only ten licenses available citywide.

Four of these requests were supported by the North End/Waterfront Neighborhood Council (NEWNC) at their January monthly meeting with the other three requests most likely scheduled for the organization’s February monthly meeting. NEWNC’s vote doesn’t mean final approval or denial.

These restaurants will probably have to go before the North End/Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA) February monthly meeting.

NEWNC supported: Mare Oyster Bar, 3 Mechanic Street, Trattoria di Monica, 67 Prince Street, Ducali Pizzeria, 289 Causeway Street and Cantina Italiana, 346 Hanover Street.

Others seeking a chance included: Strega Ristorante, 379 Hanover Street,  Antico Forno, 93 Salem Street and Carmelino’s, 367 Hanover Street.

All the requests do not include an operation, description or change of hours.

Many other a citywide businesses are expected to apply for a full liquor licenses and additional North End restaurants could apply as well.
