An ordinance signed by Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh to prohibit the use of smokeless tobacco and other tobacco products at professional sporting events, collegiate, high school and amateur sporting events will officially go into effect on April 1. No Fooling.
In addition, the measure includes: baseball, softball, football, basketball, hockey, track and field, field hockey, lacrosse, soccer and any other event including other athletic competition organized by a league or association.
Eliminating harmful smoke, cigarettes or cigar butts and smokeless tobacco juices from the ground or floor is a healthy thing.
Private facilities will be responsible for monitoring and enforcing the new policy and Boston police will handle public facilities.
Fines will range from $200 to $300.
