Co-founder of Bono’s Fruit & Produce at Haymarket Suare

Anthony ‘Tony’ Bono, a 50-year resident of Revere, died following a long illness on August 6 in the Academy Manor Nursing Facility of Andover. He was 92 years old.

Born in Boston’s North End in 1923, his family returned to Italy in 1925 where they remained until 1939 when they returned to Boston’s North End. For over 50 years, Tony lived in Revere. He is the last of five brothers: the late Giuseppe, Stefano, Caspare and Giovanni Bono who, together, founded and operated the Bono Family Fruit & Produce Co. out of Haymarket Square in Boston for over 60 years. Tony continued the business until 2000 specializing in the finest of fruits and produce.

He was the beloved husband of the late Lillian (Craparo) Bono who died in January of 1999; the devoted father of Josephine Bono and her late husband, Benny DeCenso of Everett, Lena Anderson and her husband, Ret. Revere NARCO Detective Wayne Anderson of Georgetown, Rita Goyette and her husband, Randy of Peabody and Theresa Schmitz and her husband, Dana of Andover; the cherished grandfather of Wakefield Police Sgt. Joseph Anderson and his wife, Melissa of Rowley and Lauren DeCenso of Everett; the dear brother of the late: Giuseppe, Stefano, Gaspare and Giovanni Bono. He was the son of the late Giuseppe and Giuseppa (Trafficanti) Bono.

Funeral arrangements were by the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, Revere. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. For more information, visit: www.vertuccioandsmith.com.
