Boston Public Market Update Presented at NEWRA Meeting

Boston Public Market opens this summer.

There were no voting items on last week’s North End/Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA) monthly meeting held in the Nazzaro Community Center but many members still attended.

Zoning, Licensing and Construction Chair Victor Brogna presented a lengthy report on requests before the City of Boston Zoning Board of Appeal.

He noted that NEWRA’s Executive Committee sent a letter to the ZBA of no opposition for a request by Anne DiBenedetto to add 400 square feet of living space into the basement at 47 Charter Street. ZBA approved the proposal.

However, a proposal by Dr. Edward Harlowe (supported by NEWRA) was denied by the ZBA without prejudice due to a spacing problem in connection with Old North Church Property. ZBA wanted additional information.

The plans call for the addition of a 4.5’x 12′ three story build out at 20 Unity Court.

He reported on several other proposals related to the community.

NEWRA also proposed that a tree court in the community take place because of damage  and removals. President Ford Cavallari called for volunteers to work on this project through the group’s Parks and Open Space Committee chaired by Robyn Reed.

The Committee is also working on attempting to get badly needed repairs in Paul Revere Mall (Prado) with the City of Boston. This topic will be further discussed at the Committee’s next monthly meeting scheduled for Tuesday, June 2 at 7pm in the Mariners House, 11 North Square, 2nd Floor.

The Boston Public Market is scheduled to open mid-July according to Liz Morningstar who presented an update at the NEWRA meeting. The facility will be opened from 8am to 8pm, five days a week, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The next NEWRA monthly meeting will be held on Thursday, June 11 at 7pm in the Nazzaro Community Center
