Nomination Papers for NEWNC Election

A community wide public election has been scheduled for Saturday, May 16 from 10am to 2pm in the Nazzaro Community Center, 30 North Bennet Street to elect or re-elect six members to serve two-year terms on the North End/Waterfront Neighborhood Council (NEWNC) board.

In order to become a candidate on the all volunteer advisory neighborhood group, a candidate must take out nomination papers and obtain signatures of at least 40 residents to be placed on the ballot.

Nomination papers are available at the Nazzaro Community Center and must be returned to the Center by Friday, May 4 at 5pm.

Candidates must be 18 years old or older and must reside and precincts 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6.

Once nomination papers are turned in and verify NEWNC will hold a Candidates Night on Monday, May 11 at 7pm at their monthly meeting in the Nazzaro Community Center.

During the election, candidates, other than casting their vote, will not be allowed in the building until the ballots are ready to be counted publicly. The results will be announced after the ballot counting.

NEWNC was created in 1984 by the Mayor’s office in an effort to increase communications between the neighborhood and city agencies. The Council consists of 12 members to two-year terms, which are staggered so that six seats are up for election every other year.
