Area A-1 Sees Rise in Part One Crime Stats

Area A-1 had experienced an approximately 7–percent spike in violent and property crimes as 2014 drew to a close, compared to the previous year, according to police.

Between Jan. 1 and Nov. 16, 2014 (the most-recent crime statistics available on the Boston Police Web site), 2,718 incidents of Part One crime were reported in the district, which includes Beacon Hill, Charlestown, Chinatown and downtown, as opposed to 2,543 during the same timeframe in 2013.

Two homicides were reported in 2014, up from none the previous year.

Rapes and attempted rapes, on the other hand, saw a 44-percent decrease as the number dropped from 25 in 2013 to 14 in 2014.

Robberies and attempted robberies were down 9-percent, with 203 incidents reported last year, compared to 224 in 2013.

Burglaries and attempted burglaries saw a 6-percent reduction as the number dropped to 134 in 2014 from 142 in 2013.

Vehicle thefts and attempted vehicle thefts were down 14 percent, with 83 incidents in 2014, down from 96 in 2013.

In contrast, larcenies and attempted larcenies spiked 9 percent as the number of incidents in 2014 climbed to 2,061 from 1,850 in 2013.

Aggravated assaults saw a 7-percent increase, with 221 incidents in 2014, compared to 206 in 2013.

Citywide, Part One crime was down 4 percent in 2014 as the number of incidents dropped to 19,277 from 20,174 in 2013.
