Local Politicians Looking Towards November

It’s getting down to the wire with the Tuesday, September 9 State Primary here. Political allegiances are now being set up for the final push to November when a democratic nominee will square off against a republican challenger for governor.

On Tuesday, State Senator Anthony Petruccelli threw his support behind democratic hopeful Martha Coakley. Petruccelli officially endorsed the former Attorney General yesterday

“Over the last eight years the Commonwealth has displayed extraordinary resilience in the face of immense difficulty, propelling the state to a position of national leadership,” said Petruccelli. “As Attorney General, Martha Coakley has led the fight against foreclosures, rising health care costs, and worked to create new laws protecting citizens from human trafficking and protecting women’s right to safe access to reproductive health services.” The Senator continued, “I know that Martha possess the experience and skills necessary to continue this fight and lead Massachusetts to even greater heights.”

Petruccelli’s district is comprised of East Boston, Revere, Winthrop, parts of Cambridge and Boston.

“I am honored to have Senator Petrucelli’s endorsement and look forward to continuing our work together to create a brighter and more prosperous future for neighborhoods in Boston and throughout the Commonwealth,” said Coakley.

Martha Coakley was first elected to her post as Attorney General in 2006, where she has taken the lead on economic and civil rights issues helping keep 30,000 Massachusetts residents in their homes and recovering more than $700,000,000 from Wall Street Banks that exploited homeowners. Prior to serving as the State’s top lawyer, Martha Coakley was the District Attorney for Middlesex County for eight years. Coakley is a graduate of Williams College and received her Juris Doctorate from Boston University. She currently resides in Medford with her family.
