NEWNC Opposes Hanover Street Restaurant Relocation

The Waterfront Café, 450 Commercial Street.

A request by Charles Berry, manager of 204 Hanover Street LLC, to change the occupancy at 204 Hanover Street from one apartment, one office and one store, to two apartments and one restaurant, with basement use was opposed by the North End/Waterfront Neighborhood Council (NEWNC) at last week’s monthly meeting held in the Nazzaro Community Center.

The restaurant currently located at 319 Hanover Street has apparently not signed a new lease with the building owner.

Plans call for a seating capacity of 31, eight of them located on the property on the landing outside the business. Not on the sidewalk.

Hours of operation would be 11am closure seven days a week. The eatery’s owner plans to transfer her beer and wine license to the new location.

About a week ago, the North End/Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA) also rejected the relocation request.

The Council voted to a support a request by the Golden Goose Market, 81-85 Atlantic Avenue to add a one-story addition to the northerly side to expand the market. The request is not a height increase.

Joe Bono and Warren Mustacchio’s request to change the occupancy at 361 Hanover Street (Nedia Trust) from store (former 1-800-FLOWERS) to a restaurant with takeout.

The possible pizzeria will seat 40 patrons and its hours of operation will be 11pm closure on weekdays and 12am on weekends. A beer, wine and cordial license will be applied for.

A request by The Waterfront Café, 450 Commercial Street by the owner Rocco Zagarella to increase the capacity of the business was taken off the agenda at the owner’s request.

A Boston Water and Sewer Commission (BWSC) representative advised the Council of major repairs and improvements in the North End during a three phase project. Full details, times, dates and locations will be verified next month.

The next NEWNC monthly meeting will be held on Monday, August 11 at 7pm in the Nazzaro Community Center.
