Senator Anthony Petrucelli, whose district includes the North End/Waterfront, championed passage of legislation intended to strengthen the laws related to labor and workforce development in the Commonwealth.
The legislation amends Massachusetts law providing basic workplace protection for domestic workers through a transparent and inclusive set of laws necessary to protect this valuable workforce from exploration and abuse.
The bill goes on to cover many other aspects including discrimination, personal care attendants for sexual or other harassment claims.
The Massachusetts Coalition for Domestic Works commended the Senator and his staff for the their leadership on this bill, which is on its way to the House and eventually the Governor’s signature.
The amendment is an important piece of legislation that was overdue. Senator Petrucelli brought it to the forefront and it appears it’s on its way for approval.
