Police Arrest North End Sexual Assault Suspect

Boston
Police escort arrested suspect.

Acting on a phone call from the 20-year old North End woman who was allegedly sexually assaulted in her Unity Street doorway on February 15, police immediately responded to the neighborhood where the victim told police she had spotted the suspect that attacked her playing basketball in Polcari Playground on Monday, March 10.

Police eventually arrested Ross Currier, 26, also of the North End about 7:10pm.

Currier was arraigned in Boston Municipal Court the following day (March 11) and charged with one count of assault and battery and one count of indecent assault and battery.

Currier pleaded innocent and told the court he was with his girlfriend when the incident occurred. The alibi was confirmed by his fiancée.

Currier was ordered by the court to stay away from the victim and to wear a GPS monitoring device.

Reportedly, the victim identified a different man in a Boston Police photo array last month. However, the victim sat in a police vehicle on Monday, March 10 to identify the person she said she recognized as her attacker. She told police that she was 90 to 95 percent positive that Currier was the man who assaulted her.

Currier’s lawyer told the Globe and Herald that his client will be exonerated after it was disclosed in court that the victim identified a different person based on a photo array last month.

The alleged sexual assault on February 15 was the first reported in the North End in over a year.

A video of a man leaving the area was available for review by the police and the victim provided a description.

Police assigned additional manpower in the community including several detectives.
