Police Investigate North End Alleged Sexual Assault

The main topic at the upcoming District A-1 Boston Police North End Public Safety meeting will be without question the alleged sexual assault on a 20-year-old woman that took place on Saturday, February 15 at around 11 on Unity Street.

Although the unusual sexual assault in the North End occurred over a week ago, residents are still talking about the incident and are expecting an update from police at the public safety meeting scheduled for Thursday, March 6 at 6:30pm in the Nazzaro Community Center, 30 North Bennet Street.

Unlike some other Boston neighborhoods, the North End is relatively free of this kind of crime. Reportedly, the last sexual assault in the North End took place about a year ago.

However, the recent incident does not appear to be related to the previous assaults that have occurred in the community, according to police.

While sexual assaults are unusual in the North End, that doesn’t mean the community should let down their guard. They should be aware of their surrounding at all times, police have stress that these public safety meetings that are open to the public.

Police have suggested residents walk in groups or pairs and pay attention to suspicious looking characters or people acting strangely and be prepared to dial 911 immediately and provide as much information as possible.

Currently, Boston Police have increased uniform and undercover patrols in the North End and have released a surveillance video of an individual that is being sought in connection with the alleged sexual assault  that happened in a very quiet area in the North End.

The victim, who was treated at the scene for injuries that were reportedly non-life threatening, told police “a man jumped her from behind, attempted to assault her, then took her picture with his cell phone and fled toward Tileston Street.”

The suspect was described as a white male in his 20s, blue eyes, short blonde spiked hair, medium built, clean-shaven and possible freckles on his cheeks.
