Licensing Board Should Notify Community Groups of Applications

A complaint, by the North End/Waterfront Residents’ Association, has been sent to the Licensing Board for the City of Boston for approving applications before the community group has had the opportunity to review them at their Zoning, Licensing and Construction Committee and/or at their monthly public meeting held in the Nazzaro Community Center the second Thursday of every month.

NEWRA is a non-profit community group with a reported membership of close to three hundred.

It’s important that the Licensing Board allowed the neighborhood group of pending votes on applications that impact their community.

Community review of any and all applications regarding the North End/Waterfront community is imperative. In addition, NEWRA has claimed that there are times they are not even notified on requests that have already been voted on by the Licensing Board.

This can only be rectified by the Boston City Council, the State Legislature and the Mayor.

NEWRA is a community organized group that has existed for many years.

To bypass this group on liquor license requests is not the right thing to do.
