NEWNC Opposes 7-eleven/10 to 1

Failure to go before the North End/Waterfront Neighborhood Council, a community elected group, created a negative response and a 10/1 vote against the 7-Eleven chain store at 340 Hanover Street.

About a week before the NEWNC meeting the North End/Waterfront Residents’ Association and the Boston Redevelopment Authority supported 7-Eleven’s signage review, however, the organization never appeared before NEWNC and it wasn’t taken lightly.

Jorge Mendoza told company representative, “You did not follow protocol and you skipped us (NEWRA).”

The store has been opened without signage until BRA’s approval is given and the process will begin.

State Representative Aaron Michlewitz express concern regarding deliveries being made at 10-11 PM. “It’s a real disturbance to the community.”

Mendoza noted that there are hundreds of businesses in the North End and if everyone abides by the delivery rule between 8 AM and 12 noon.

Currently, the store is owned and operated by 7-Eleven and there are on no plans for any type of liquor license for the store.

However, 7-Eleven plans to sell the business to a possible franchisee that could apply for some sort of liquor license.

In other action, NEWNC voted to support a request by Paolina Corporation d/b/a LaGalleria 33, Salem Street to apply for a new full liquor license to upgrade their existing wine and malt beverage license.

The hours of operation with not changes. The restaurant will not include a bar.

Robert Onessimo received Council support to construct fifth floor additions to two existing neighborhood four-story buildings on Hull Street Court.

The proposed building height will not exceed 55 feet. Plans also call for a private connecting roof deck.

A proposal to construct a five-story building in the vacant lot at 124-126 Salem Street was also supported by NEWNC. The building will include nine units and retail space on the first floor. Construction will take 12-14 months.

The structure will be under 55 feet and the applicant Collin Yip has received support from abutters.

The next NEWNC monthly meeting will be held on Monday, February 10 at 7 PM in the Nazzaro Community Center.
