NEWNC Tables 5-story Building Request

Boston Transportation Department Commissioner Tom Tinlin told residents at last week’s North End/Waterfront Neighborhood Council (NEWNC) monthly meeting that his department does investigate fraudulent handicap spots and placards and reports them to the proper authorities.

The commissioner also addressed several parking issues including visitor’s parking, commercial parking, valet parking, signage and other related issues posed by residents.

A suggestion by NEWNC member Philip Frattaroli to utilize the Eliot School parking lot on Commercial Street for Boston Garden event parking with the proceeds going to the school was discussed with the commissioner.

Commissioner Tinlin said, “NEWNC would discuss the possibility with the school’s principal and call him for assistance.”

Representative Aaron Michlewitz staffer Blake Webber introduced Patrick Lyons, new legislative aide who replaced Maria Puopolo.

Ryan Kenny, Resident Parking and Traffic Committee chair presented an interesting slide presentation that highlights just about every related problem existing in the community.

David Marx, Public Safety Committee chair gave an overview of the Boston Police crime related report that covered the month of October.

RUFF members, Leslie Horn and Amy Hand updated the community group activities including seeking the use of Parcel 12 on Commercial Street as a dog park.

RUFF is talking with MassDOT and the Greenway Conservancy to work things out as soon as possible

Some NEWNC members supported the idea and reportedly the Conservancy is favorable as well.

The filming of a movie entitled “Business Trip” will take place in the North End at several locations on Friday, November 22 and Monday, November 25. Residents will be notified by flyers and will be given vouchers for any parking spaces taken by the film crew.

A request by Collin Yip to construct a 5-story building with residential units, commercial space, three separate roof-decks with limited or no parking was tabled until the December monthly meeting when final plans are presented for discussion and a possible vote by the membership.

The next NEWNC monthly meeting will be held on Monday, December 9 at 7pm in the Nazzaro Community Center.
