North End Voters Backed LaMattina

City Councilor Sal LaMattina easily cruised to the final election and will face Brian Gannon in the November 5 General Election.

LaMattina got 1186 votes in the North End and 6,756 voted in District 1, which includes Charlestown, the North End and East Boston

In the North End the closest to LaMattina was Gannon with 192 votes. John Ribiero finished third in Charlestown with 108 votes.

District wide Gannon got 1,214 votes and Ribiero got 996 votes.

“Wow this is unbelievable,” said LaMattina of the convincing win to go into the final. “It goes to show when you work hard for the neighborhood, people appreciate it.”

LaMattina said the results show the campaign was about more than the casino issue.

“As you see from results its more than a casino at stake,” he said. “When you represent a District you work to address all the issues, my staff and I do that everyday. However, it’s not over yet and I’ll need all your help in November. I’m excited about the opportunity to work with a new mayor and I’m excited to be part of a new Boston.”

In the Mayor’s race North End voters went with John Connolly. Connolly received 1,238 votes from North End voters.

Dan Conley was second among North End voters with 847 votes.

Charlotte Golar Richie, who had the backing of Representative Aaron Michlewitz, finished third in the North End with 558 votes. She was followed by Rob Consalvo who picked up only 247 votes.

Connolly and Walsh will square on during the November 5 General Election.

Citywide Walsh topped the ticket and narrowly edged out Connolly for the top spot.

Citywide Walsh received 20,848 votes or 18% and Connolly got 19,420 votes or 17%.
