NEWRA Pleased with Open Spaces Proposals

Rachelle Revere Park, in North Square, funding for repairs has been placed in the 2014 City Budget according to Boston City Councilor Sal LaMattina

The announcement was made at the North End/Waterfront Residents’ Association Parks and Open Spaces Committee monthly meeting held last week at the Nazzaro Community Center.

The MassDOT lot on Richmond Street has been refurbished and being used as a dog park was also announced.

New planters have been placed on Cross Street at the request of Councilor LaMattina and the North End Beautification Committee will handle the placement of flowers in the near future. The City will take care of the maintenance according to the committee.

The committee also reported that the Parks Department is planning to place solar lights at the two entrances at Copps Hill Burial Ground.

The new iron rod fencing on the Charter Street site of the cemetery should be completed by the Parks Department by the first week in July. Some of the wall has also been repaired and other parts will be pointed.

In addition, additional flowers will be planted, tombstones repairs and the fountain is almost fully repaired.

The committee is still requesting that three of the five Cherry Trees located in Copps Hill Terrace be removed of ivy that is placing them in danger of dying. On the lower level, some of the Pine Trees appear to be in trouble as well.

Plans by two local residents to give North Square a facelift were discussed and a presentation will be presented at NEWRA monthly meeting scheduled on Thursday, July 11 at 7pm.

The next NEWRA Committee monthly meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 2 at 7pm in the Nazzaro Community Center.
