Northender Injured Severely in the Marathon Bombing

Roseann Sdoia

The North End community is rallying around longtime North End resident Roseann Sdoia who was severely injured during last week’s Boston Marathon bombing.

Friends and family of Sdoai have established a website on gofundme.com with the goal of raising $750,000 for Sdoai’s recovery.

Already the group has raised $213,281 as of Monday.

Sdoai was on Boylston Street with friend, Sabrina Dello Russo, daughter of former Assistant Clerk Magistrate Bobby Dello Russo of the North End, when the second bomb went off. Dello Russo was also injured in the attack but has since recovered.

As a result of the attack, Sdoai lost her leg above the knee and had to undergo several surgeries to save her life and remove shrapnel from her abdomen. Surgeons also removed a portion of a tree that became a projectile and seriously wounded her left leg.

Aside from the amputation of her right leg, Sdoai suffered burns that covered portions of her body.

Friends describe Sdoai, known as Ro, as a fighter that has an infectious personality and loves Boston with all her heart.

A lifelong Boston Red Sox fan, Sdoai went to the Red Sox game with some friends on Marathon Monday and then walked over to the finish line after the game.

The gifts donated to Sdoai through the website will be transferred to Enterprise Bank for Sdoia’s medical expenses.

Donors can also send a check made payable to: Roseann Sdoia Recovery Fund c/o Enterprise Bank 1168 Lakeview Ave., Dracut MA 01826.

Also the North Street Grille is running a promotion through April 30. For every appetizer sold at the North Street Grille they will donate all the money through those sales to Sdoai’s recovery fund.
