Council Supports Two Liquor License Transfers

Frank DePasquale seeking beer, wine and liqueurs license transfer.

Two transfers of beer, wine and liqueurs licenses were approved by the North End/Waterfront Neighborhood Council (NEWNC) at their monthly meeting held last week at the Nazzaro Community Center.

Represented by Attorney William Ferullo, the Council supported a request by Frank DePasquale to transfer the wine, malt and liqueur license from Gelateria, 272 Hanover Street to Il Panino Express also located on Hanover Street.

The owner also plans to convert the operation of Il Panino Express from self-service (counter) to table service with a similar menu. Closing hours will remain the same, 11pm on weekdays and midnight on weekends.

The vote was 7-0 to support the transfer.

While the Council approved, conditionally, a request by Salem Group LLC to transfer the malt, wine and liqueur license from Sapoli Di Napoli Cafe, 115A Salem Street for a new cafe/coffee shop called Rigoletto, there was confusion over a reported letter of support by the condo association.

The group could not produce the letter and the Council was concerned that there wasn’t a letter. An electronic message was sent to one of the board members that was supposed to be a copy of the letter but it turned out to be a letter supporting ventilation dated April 11, 2011. If the reported letter is not produced the Council will withdraw their 6-2 support.

The new owners did produce a petition and other letters of support. An extensive menu change was also part of the business takeover for the cafe/coffee shop that will be open seven days a week from 10am to 12:30am. The shop will have seating for 40 customers with wait service. Reportedly the Council rescinded their support.

The next Council meeting will be held on Monday, January 14 in the Nazzaro Community Center.
