Greenway Bill Signed into Law

The Greenway legislation filed by State Representative Aaron Michlewitz is now on the books as law.

While the bill left the funding issue alone, it brought the neighborhood into the picture by adding several community groups, changing the composition of the Conservancy Board of Directors.

Both the North End/Waterfront Neighborhood Council and Residents’ Association will have a voice on the board, increasing the total number of directors to 21.

The bill also calls for the Conservancy to open its books and explain all expenditures.

Fundraising would be exempt, so that anonymous donors would be shielded from public notice, if they want not to be exposed. The Conservancy will manage this situation.

In addition, the Conservancy will be subject to open meetings and public record laws.

Representative Michlewitz moved the bill in the House, Senator Anthony Petruccelli did the same in the Senate before the Governor signed the legislation.
