Police Set Loud Noise/Disorderly Goals

In a letter to North End/Waterfront residents, Area A-1 Boston Police Commanding Officer Thomas Lee outlined goals to deal with loud noise and disorderly issues, that residents have made him and his Community Service Officers Sergeant Tom Lema and Officer Ted Boyle, aware of.

Listed below are several goals police will undertake to respond to the issues presented by residents at monthly public safety meetings.

An increased uniform presence throughout the community, particularly in the areas most affected by noise complaints.

A two officer walking patrol has been added on Hanover Street on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from 11:45pm to 3:45am focusing on noise and public disorder complaints.

Officers will continue to make arrests or issue city ordinance violations for disorderly and noise violations.

Community Service Officers will keep in close contact with local universities and colleges to address any issues relating to student population.

Officers have initiated a new program which includes follow-up visits to all addresses responsible for loud party complaints.

Officers will continue an open dialogue with elected officials to review all properties subject to noise complaints resulting in appropriate outreach to landlords.

The Boston Police Licensing Unit has written several violations to local business owners for many reasons including noise and disorderly patrons.

“Our goal is to keep the neighborhood safe and address the quality of life issues that are affecting residents,” Captain Lee said. “The success of our efforts depends on your ongoing participation and your commitment  for a safe community. We look forward to our ongoing collaboration,” he added.

The next Public Safety meeting will be held on Thursday, June 7 at 6:30pm in the Nazzaro Community Center, 30 North Bennet Street.

Captain Lee encourages all residents to attend the monthly meeting to ask police questions, register complaints, obtain advise from the police and learn about the crime statistics in the North End.
