Four Building Proposals Submitted for Parcel 9

Four building proposals have been submitted to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) for the development of the vacant parcel known as Central Artery “Parcel 9”, located between the Greenway Park Parcel 10 and the section of Blackstone Street used by the Haymarket push cart vendors.

All four proposals have been presented to residents at several meetings many of them in the North End/Waterfront community.

The proposals include a 50-unit apartment building with restaurants, a 119-unit apartment building with a market and restaurant, a hotel with first floor retail and The Boston Museum.

At the meetings residents and business community were given the opportunity to identify positive and negative elements and impacts of each proposal. MassDOT has established a comment period until June 3.

The North End/Waterfront Residents’ Association and the North End/Waterfront Neighborhood Council have been monitoring this particular project and plans to submit comments to MassDOT.

All three local elected officials have also been on top of this issue.

Senator Anthony Petruccelli, Representative Aaron Michlewitz and Councilor Sal LaMattina have been working with MassDOT and local community groups to hopefully finalize a plan that makes sense for everyone.
