Crime Statistics Down for 2011

Area A-1, which includes Beacon Hill, Charlestown, Chinatown North End and downtown, saw an approximately 13-percent reduction in violent and property crimes by year’s end as compared to 2010, according to Boston Police.

Between Jan. 1 and Dec. 26 of 2011, 2,843 incidents of Part One crime were reported, compared with 3,254 during the same timeframe in the previous year.

While crime was down in all other Part One categories, one homicide was reported in 2011 as opposed to none the year before.

Rapes and attempted rapes experienced an approximately 5-percent decrease as the number of incidents dropped to 20 from 19 in 2010.

Vehicle theft and attempted vehicle theft dropped 23 percent as the number of incidents fell to 96 from 125 the previous year.

Aggravated assaults were down 20 percent, with 247 incidents in 2011 as opposed to 309 in 2010.

Robberies and attempted robberies saw a 19-percent decrease as the number of incidents dropped to 175 from 215 the previous year.

Larcenies and attempted larcenies were down 12 percent as the number of incidents fell to 2,101 from 2,376 in 2010.

Burglaries and attempted burglaries experienced a 2 percent increase, with 209 incidents in 2011 as opposed to 204 the year before.

Citywide, Part One crime was down 8 percent in 2011 as the total number of incidents dropped to 23,824 from 25,967 in 2010.
