BRA Denies Community Group’s IAG Nominee

So far after several attempts to nominate a person to represent them on the Impact Advisory Group (IAG), the North End/Waterfront Residents’ Association has failed to do so because the Boston Redevelopment Authority has refused to accept the community group’s nominee for reasons of potential conflict of interest.

Reportedly, the NEWRA nominees suggested to represent them on the development of the Government Center Garage have or are involved in disputes over other BRA projects including the development over a park on the Waterfront which the plaintiffs won in court.

So it’s back to the drawing board for NEWRA to nominate someone that the BRA is satisfied with.

At their November monthly meeting, NEWRA made no comment as to who should be nominated to represent them on IAG.

According to NEWRA Zoning, Licensing and Construction (ZLC) Committee report, “The Project Notification Form defining a new plan for redevelopment of the site has not been filed by the potential developer but one is expected to be filed by the end of the year 2011.”

The project is expected to include mixed use, like office space, residential units, a hotel, commercial space and a tower.

“The filing will immediately be followed by a public comment period.” Committee co-chair David Kubiak told members and others at the association’s monthly meeting held at the Nazzaro Community Center.

“The ZLC Committee will follow any and all activities related to this major project, which could have significant impacts to the North End/Waterfront neighborhood, and will keep members informed,” Kubiak noted.

NEWRA next monthly meeting will be held on Thursday, December 8 at 7pm at the Nazzaro Community Center, 30 North Bennet Street.
