NEWRA Supports Take out Restaurant/Elects Officers

Besides the election of officers, the North End/Waterfront Residents’ Association voted 29-1 to allow Philip Consolo to change the first floor of the formerly LuLu’s and Lyndell’s Bakery at 227 Hanover Street to a small take out restaurant “Hot Tomatoes” and to obtain a 7-Day Common C.V. license for retail food service.

Attorney Daniel Toscano, who represented Consolo, told residents there will be no seating and the hours of operation will be 11am to 11pm seven days a week, pest control and trash pick-up companies have already been hired.

Nicole Leo of the Mayor’s Office advised the association that final plans for a bike lane from Atlantic Avenue to Hull Street have been approved without taking away any residential parking spaces. She also noted that the plans will be made public in the near future.

Boston Water and Sewer Commission staff updates residents on plans to repair catch basins, sewers and manholes on Salem Street starting in January 2012 running through April.

Forty-eight (48) other streets will be tested for damage and repairs will be made if needed. This part of the major North End Project will begin in October and run through March.

NEWRA at the annual meeting (10.13.11) by ballot elected officers for next year. All officers were elected unanimously.

Elected were: President Stephanie Hogue, no Vice President was elected, Treasurer Michael Giardiello, Secretary Nicole Rafter and Sergeant of Arms Jim Salini.

The next NEWRA monthly meeting will be held on Thursday, November 10 at 7pm in the Nazzaro Community Center, 30 North Bennet Street.
