The Parade

Everyone loves a parade appears to be a phrase more about the past than the present.

The Columbus Day Parade held Sunday in the North End was sparsely attended, so sparsely attended that some observers said there were more cars towed than people watching the parade.

Obviously, this is a simplification but we get the point.

Parades are not what they used to be. They tend to cost more than they are worth if large crowds aren’t coming out to watch them.

Parades are a throwback to a vanishing past.

Not yet totally vanished but coming closer each time.
