Snow Hill Wall Demolition Completed

The very heavy downfall didn’t wash out the NEWRA Parks and Open Spaces Committee monthly meeting held at the Nazzaro Community Center.

Chairperson Anne Pistorio advised the committee of several things that have already occurred and others that are about to happen.

She noted that two trees on Snow Hill Street and Cleveland Place have been removed because they were leaning toward the street and their roots were ripping up the sidewalk.

She also mentioned that the demolition of the DeFilippo Playground wall on Snow Hill Street has been completed and the new replacement bricks are already on site.

Once the new wall is installed the metal fence will be put in place. A tree was also taken down in the playground and a new picnic table will be installed along with some flood lights.

The Parks Department has checked out the drainage system and everything appears to be a go for a new Tot Lot according to Pistorio.

Apparently bids for the Tot Lot will go out August 14. The kids area is also expected to be larger with all the safety factors built in.

Pistorio told the committee that the Parks Department is planning to clear all the trash and clutter located between the parking lot building and the playground wall which is used to play hand ball.

She added that there are three trees in the Copps Hill Cemetery that are deteriorating and might have to come down. There is also at least two trees in the Copps Hill Terrace that are in bad shape as well.

“It’s like a subway station at the bottom of the Terrace of Commercial Street as rats stroll in and out of a catch basin,” Pistorio said.

Apparently this has been reported to the City and they will be looking into the situation.

The next Parks and Open Spaces Committee monthly meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 6 at 7pm in the Nazzaro Community Center.
