Ralph Squillante

Barber and Talented Percussionist

Ralph Squillante of Medford, formerly of the North End of Boston, died on August 2 at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He was 80 years old.

Born and raised in Boston’s North End, the son of the late Alfonso and the late Mary (DiMicchilo) Squillante, he was a US Army veteran of the Korean War and worked as a barber operating shops at the Prudential Center, Sheridan Hotel and the Ritz Carlton. He was also a talented percussionist who played drums with several bands in the Boston Area including the MelTones.

A Medford resident for more than 40 years, he was a member of the Medford Elks and the Winchester Sons of Italy. He was devoted to his family and enjoyed the company of his relatives and friends

He was the beloved husband of Jean (Frallicciardi) with whom he shared 61 years of marriage; devoted father of Debra Squillante, of Stoneham, Rene Squillante of East Boston, Cheryl Delano of Palm Beach Garden, FL, Jean George and her husband Paul of Derry, NH and Ralph Squillante, Jr of Medford; loving grandfather of Richard, Jesse, Dane, John, Julie, Joanna, Melanie, and Michelle; dear brother of Patsy, Anthony, Flora and Anna Squillante.

Funeral arrangements were by the Dello Russo Funeral Home, Medford. Burial was at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Vincent ‘Big Bill’ Mercandante

Retired Boston Police officer

Vincent J. “Big Bill” Mercandante of Randolph, formerly of the North End of Boston, a retired Boston Police Officer, died on July 29. He was 88 years old.

He was born in Boston and graduated from English High School. He was a retired Patrolman for the Boston Police Dept. where he served for 33 years and was the Co-Founder of the Boston Police Patrolman’s Association. He was a US Army veteran of World War II who served in the “Battle of the Bulge,” and loved being with his family and friends.

He was the beloved husband of Joanne (Aliberti) Mercadante; loving father of Anthony Mercadante of Randolph, Vincent Mercadante Jr. of Homer, Alaska, Richard Mercadante and his wife, Janet of Virginia Beach, VA and Christopher Mercadante and his wife, Rebecca “Becky” of Brooklyn, Park, MN; devoted brother of Mary Cardile of Taunton, Carmine Mercadante and his wife, Barbara of Danvers and the late Dollie Moretti; brother in law of Edmund Aliberti and his wife, Rosetta of Medford, Jeanette Palmer and her husband, Ronnie of Missouri; dear grandfather of Samantha, Jared, Josephine, Michael and Stefon. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Cartwright Funeral Home, Randolph. Burial was in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. Rosina Pagliuca

East Boston resident

 Rosina( Iantosca) Pagliuca of East Boston died on July 28.

She was the beloved wife of more than 63 Years to Ezecchia Pagliuca; devoted mother of Anna Pagliuca, Antonio and his late wife, Rose, all of East Boston; dear sister of Marie and Armenio Iantosca, both of Italy. The sister of five late brothers and two late sisters, she was the cherished grandmother of Rosanna, Angela, Tonia and the late Rosemarie and Ciriaco and is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Ruggiero Mazzarella Memorial Home, (Orient Heights) East Boston. She was laid to rest in the Mausoleum at Woodlawn Cemetery.
