NEWRA Monthly Meeting July 14

NEWRA will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, July 14 at 7pm in the Nazzaro Community Center, 30 North Bennet Street.

The agenda includes: Presidents’ Report, summer party update, Clean Streets Committee, Parks and Open Spaces Committee and Zoning, Licensing and Construction Committee reports. There will be only one agenda item that requires a vote by NEWRA.

Michelle Holdings, LLC has filed an appeal for zoning relief to change the legal occupancy of the building at 55-57 North Washington Street from restaurant and 12 residential units to restaurant and 16 residential units with plans to convert existing second floor dining/function room into four residential living units. A portion of the first floor is housed by Joe Tecce’s Restaurant which spans 45-65 North Street.

In response to the City’s request that concerned citizens contact the Federal Motor Carrier Administration and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, NEWRA has drafted a brief letter urging the swift implementation of the Hazardous Material Routing Study’s recommendation to remove pass-through hazardous cargo trucks from City of Boston streets.

The City’s Boston Bikes Program will present the current proposal for a bike lane along Atlantic Avenue and Commercial Street, consisting of a buffered “cycle track” on the harbor-side of the street and a regular painted lane on the opposite side. This proposal would remove 5-10 parking spaces from the neighborhood total. The presentation will be followed by a question and comment period.

NEWRA’s Annual Summer Party will be held at the Pilot House on Wednesday, August 17 from 6 to 8pm. All North End/Waterfront residents are invited.

The next NEWRA monthly meeting will be held on Thursday, August 11 at 7pm in the Nazzaro Community Center, 30 North Bennet Street.
