Red Sox Capture Majors Title

The Red Sox 2011 Champs

How do you cap off an impressive 9-1 regular season record? By capturing the 2011 NEAA Majors Baseball Championship. That’s exactly what the Red Sox did by beating the Cubs 6-3 and 6-0.

With the score tied at 3 Timmy Martin laced a gap shot that rolled to the fence for a three-run inside the park home run in the bottom of the 4th inning of the first playoff championship series game giving the Red Sox a 6-3 lead over the Cubs, a lead they would never relinquish.

The inning started with big hits from Ellie Gozigian and Jordyn Amoroso who both scored on Martin’s clutch hit.

Lorenzo Pantaleo pitched well for the Sox striking out six Cubs batters.

Mike Pittore and Coleman Shea pitched well for the Cubs.

Several walks and big hits by Ellie Gozgian, Jordyn Amoroso and Time Martin gave the Red Sox a 4-0 lead over the Cubs and they would never look back capturing the NEAA Majors Baseball League Championship by a final score of 6-0.

The two wins over the Cubs gave the Red Sox a solid 11-1 record for the 2011 season.

Red Sox pitchers Timmy Martin, Lorenzo Pantaleo, Fortunado D’Ampolo and Ryan Santoro combined for the shutout victory.

Cubs pitchers Michael Pittore and Coleman Shea, after shaky early innings, pitched well in a losing effort.

The Sox got big contributions from a couple of nine year olds who played like season veterans.

Fortunado D’Ampolo and Stephen Agrippino kept coming up with big plays throughout the championship series.

Following the game, coach Paul Luongo announced he was stepping down after 15 years of serving the NEAA.

“Paul’s passion for teaching baseball to our children will be missed,” Majors Commission Ralph Martignetti said.

Martignetti also congratulated the Red Sox on their great season which ended with a championship.
