The Rev. John Unni Sets a Wonderful Precedent

Father John Unni delivered a homily of historic proportion for a Catholic church in Boston at Sunday’s Mass at St. Cecilia’s Church in the Back Bay,

The homily supported St. Cecilia’s gay and lesbian churchgoers as members of the much larger and more diverse congregation.

Reverend Unni did not disappoint the men and women in the crowded church when he asked for acceptance of all and unconditional love for all.

“You are welcome here, gay or straight, rich or poor, young or old, black or white,” he said during his homily at the Mass. “Here, you can all say, ‘I can worship the God who made me as I am.’”

Reverend Unni has shown tremendous courage.

We want to congratulate Reverend Unni for his eloquence and his compassion and for the type of leadership that he showed at his Mass on Sunday.

St. Cecilia’s is well represented by Reverend Unni.

He has gone where very few like him have dared to go.

His words in that homily are irrefutable.

In Catholic church circles, Reverend Unni has taken his parish to a new place.

Overnight, he has become a powerful voice in Boston for people of all faiths, colors, creeds and sexual persuasions.
