NEAA Majors Opening Day Draws a Large Crowd

-by Phil Orlandella

A double-header was part of the North End Athletic Association’s 2011 Opening Day Baseball Program.

This year’s season will be played in memory of Tony Iudiciani a life-long resident who passed away at the young age of 19. Representatives from the Iudiciani family tossed out the traditional first pitch.

North Street Accapella (three members are former North Enders) performed the National Anthem and Take Me Out to the Ball Game.

A free barbecue was provided to all the Opening Day participants.

NEAA President Dom Campochiaro, Baseball Coordinator John Romano and the Major League Commissioner Ralph Martignetti were part of the ceremony.

Local elected officials, State Senator Anthony Petruccelli, State Representative Aaron Michlewitz and Boston City Councilor Sal LaMattina who helped sponsor the league attended as well.

The Majors will play a regular season schedule, playoffs, an All Star game and participate in several tournaments.

An Awards Banquet will also be scheduled.
