12 Vendors Selected by Greenway Conservancy

-By Phil Orlandella

Last year’s Food Vending Program on the Rose Kennedy Greenway has been expanded based on the success of the 2010 successful pilot program according to the Greenway Conservancy the designated steward of the popular park.

The Conservancy has announced the finalists’ names and locations of the four food trucks, one trailer, one mobile kiosk, one bike and five carts.

The goal of the Conservancy is to have 10 to 15 vendors on the Greenway every season.

The twelve vendors that were selected for the 2011 were chosen based on the distinctiveness of their offerings, the quality of their product and their prices according to the Conservancy.

Thirty-two proprietors submitted proposals to participate in the 2011 food vending program. Clover Food Lab and Silk Road BBQ are currently open for business on the Greenway.

The ten other food vendors are expected to begin operations by Memorial Day weekend including Boston Pushcart, Streatery, Going Bananas, Beantown Franks’ n Spuds, Cupcake Cart, Grilled Cheese Nation, Equal Exchange Free Range Cafe, Lefty’s Silver Cart, BBQ Smith and DosaMobile.

“There is really something for everyone when we talk about food vending on the Greenway,” Nancy Brennan executive director of the Rose Kennedy Conservancy said in a press release.

She added, “Lots of affordable, delicious options in various locations around the park including BBQ, Indian street food, cupcakes, grilled cheese, hot dogs, sandwiches, salads and smoothies. Great food, sunshine, fountains, WiFi and free public events add up to lots of fun to be had on the Greenway.”

Donna Freni, a member of the Conservancy Advisory Board told the Review that the popular Carousel is now open at the park.
