Phyllis Daly, 89

North End resident

Phyllis M. Daly of Boston’s North End died on September 7. She was 89 years old.

The loving daughter of the late Francesca (Didio) and Salvatore Baglio Sr., she was the cherished wife of the late William P. Daly; beloved sister of Joseph Baglio and his wife, Mary, and the late Salvatore Baglio Jr., survived by his wife Rita; the late Frances Johnson and Angie Lazzarino; cherished aunt of Geraldine Howard, Joseph Baglio Jr. and Salvatore Baglio.

Irene Gomez, 72

Verizon Managerial retiree

Irene R. Gomez, a 26-year resident of Revere, formerly of Boston’s North End, died on September 1 following a 10-year battle with cancer at Beaumont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center of Natick. She was 72 years old.

A native of Boston’s North End, she was raised and educated in Boston and began working for the New England Tel & Tel (now Verizon) immediately following graduation. She worked for Verizon for 47 years reaching most successful positions within management and engineering. She retired in 2003. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and, along with her family, were devotees of St. Stephen’s Parish of the North End.

She was the daughter of the late Ramon and Elena (Freire) Gomez-Ponte; dear sister of the late Dolores L. Salemi, Juanita A. Ponte, Elena M. Watson and Ramon Gomez, Jr.; cherished aunt of Raymond D. Salemi and his wife, Karen A., of Framingham, Robert A. Salemi of Salem, NH, Thomas L. Salemi and his wife, Nicole, of Newburyport, Susan K. Bell of Revere and recently of Peabody, William A. Marino and his wife, Elizabeth, of Alexandria, VA and Paul S. Marino of Charlton, MA. She is also lovingly survived by many grandnieces and grandnephews.

Funeral arrangements were by the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, Revere. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Foster Parrots LTD, PO Box 650, Rockland, MA 02370.

 

John Madigan

Of Tewksbury, formerly of the North End

John Madigan of Tewksbury, formerly of Wilmington and Boston’s North End, died on September 4.

A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was the Past Commander of Wilmington VFW Post 2458.

The beloved husband of the late Florence “Muriel” (Landry), Lorraine (Damiano) and Rebee M. (Whigham) Madigan; the devoted father of John Madigan of Maine, Billy Madigan of Wilmington, Mark Madigan of Tewksbury, Elizabeth Marsden, Kathy Mele and Richard Madigan, all of Lowell, Marytheresa LeBlanc of Arizona and the late Thomas and Paul Madigan. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He was the brother of Mildred Kelmon of California and the late Dorothy Magrath.

Madeline Colvario, 89

Winthrop resident, formerly of the North End

Madeline (Carcerano) Colvario of Winthrop, formerly of the North End, died September 2 at the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home after a long illness. She was 89 years old.

Born in Boston, the daughter of the late Julia (Corvo) and Giuseppe Carcerano, she resided in the North End of Boston prior to moving to Winthrop 45 years ago.

She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Colvario, devoted mother of Thomas and Claire Colvario, Joseph Jr. and Jean Colvario, John Colvario, Stephan and the late Donna Colvario, all of Winthrop, Maria and Paul Minchella of Beverly and the late Anthony and Ann Marie Colvario and dear sister of Frances Frate of Medford and Josephine Pettito of Peabody. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
