Crime down over the past 30 days

Boston Police Area A-1 Commanding Officer Captain Bernard O’Rourke told several North End residents at a NEWNC Public Safety Committee meeting that over the past 30 days crime in the area has flattened out.

The big drop came in the number of breaking and entering crimes which soared the previous month.

O’Rourke reported that there were no homicides, auto thefts, graffiti, deaths or disorderly during this period of time. Other categories included sexual assault (1), robberies (1), aggravated assault (1), breaking and entering (3), larceny from MV (3) and towed motor vehicles (18). He noted that this information is based on reported incidents.

According to Captain O’Rourke an anti-crime unit has been in the community seeking out burglars and a decoy team of three female police officers are also in the area relating to three reported incidents involving an assault and battery on Salem Street and two other reports of a similar described suspect approaching two other North End females.

Police believe it is the same person.

As he always does, Captain O’Rourke urged residents to call 911 immediately if they see a crime taken place in the community. He also asked residents to be as descriptive as possible.

The next NEWNC Public Safety Committee monthly meeting will be held on Thursday, October 7 at 6:30pm at the Nazzaro Community Center.
